Episode 1 - On Writing and Running

My inaugural guest, Faheemah Limbada, lives in Johannesburg. She picked up running in recent years and quickly progressed to doing “The Ultimate Human Race”, the South African Comrades marathon. We explore what it takes to get to the starting line of something you have never done before, whether writing or marathons, how siblings can sometimes have good ideas, and what we do next, when everything turns out different from what we expected it to be. I have always considered myself a “book nerd” and yet through this conversation discovered some interesting patterns that shape us all wherever our passions lie, I hope you find some inspiration too.

  • ITB band = The iliotibial band, which runs along the lateral or outside aspect of the thigh, from the pelvis to the tibia, crossing both the hip and knee joints. The iliotibial band is an important stabilizer structure of the lateral part of the knee as the joint flexes and extends.

  • Ramadan = The Muslim holy month of Ramadan ends approximately May 23. During the month Muslims fast every day, no eating or drinking, from dawn to sunset. It is meant to be a time of spiritual discipline, of deep contemplation of one’s relationship with God, extra prayer, increased charity and generosity, and intense study of the Quran. At the end of Ramadan, there’s a big three-day celebration called Eid al-Fitr, or the Festival of the Breaking of the Fast.
